RCMP say officer shot, seriously injured in Kamloops, B.C.

Mounties say officer was conducting a traffic stop when “an exchange of gun fire occurred”

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The RCMP say an officer has been shot in Kamloops, B.C., and is in hospital with serious injuries.

The Mounties say the officer was conducting a traffic stop early today when “an exchange of gun fire occurred.”

Police say the vehicle they were attempting to stop and its occupants have not been located.

They are warning the suspects are considered armed and dangerous.

A police release early today said the officer was transported to Royal Inland Hospital and was undergoing surgery.

The police release says RCMP are looking for a white, four-door Chrysler Intrepid with BC license plate AF765A attached to it at the time.

Police are releasing few other details at the moment, including the gender of the wounded officer.
