BAIL RULING DUE TODAY IN HALIFAX CHEMICALS CASE
A judge in Halifax is expected to rule today on whether to grant bail to a man accused of threatening police with a dangerous chemical. Christopher Phillips, 42, was arrested Jan. 21 at an Ottawa hotel and brought back to Halifax to face charges of uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
JURY IN VIA RAIL TERROR TRIAL ENTERS DAY 7 OF DELIBERATIONS
The jury at the trial of two men accused of plotting to derail a passenger train between Canada and the U.S. enter their seventh day of deliberations in a Toronto courthouse. Raed Jaser and Chiheb Esseghaier are both facing four-terror related charges, while Esseghaier faces a fifth separate charge.
KEY EDMONTON BRIDGE COULD BE CLOSED FOR WEEKS
A $32-million project to replace a key bridge in Edmonton could be delayed up to one year after four 40-tonne steel girders mysteriously buckled. Barry Belcourt, manager of Edmonton’s road design and construction branch, said investigators were reviewing the bridge design, materials used, the construction process and environmental conditions for clues.
