High school rugby player in Ottawa dies of injuries suffered during match

OTTAWA – A high school rugby player in Ottawa has died after suffering injuries in a game last week.

Rowan Stringer died Sunday night in hospital.

Students at John McCrae Secondary School are mourning the 17-year-old’s death and the Ottawa Carleton District School Board has extended condolences to the Stringer family and the girl’s friends.

The school board has not confirmed details of the injuries sustained by Stringer, who was captain of her rugby team and had played the sport extensively.

The school board dispatched a crisis management team to the school to help students and staff deal with the loss.

All sports at the school have also been cancelled.
