Son of doomed mall owner wanted changed inspection report sent to bank

The edits downplayed water-leakage problems and severe rusting

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The inquiry looking into the mall collapse in Elliot Lake, Ont., will hear again today from the son of the mall owner.

On Monday, Levon Nazarian talked about how the bank threatened to pull its mortgage given the mall’s state of disrepair.

Nazarian admitted asking an engineer to change an inspection report to make it more “presentable.”

The changes downplayed water-leakage problems and severe rusting just weeks before the mall collapsed last summer, killing two women.

But Nazarian insisted he never thought the rust had caused any structural damage.

Nazarian worked closely with his father, Bob Nazarian, who is expected to testify later this week or next week.
