Piracicaba, Brazil
A biologist puts her hand in a box containing male genetically modified mosquitoes at an exhibit by a British biotechnology company in Piracicaba, Brazil. The laboratory created the mosquitoes, set to be released in Sao Paulo in April, in order to battle an outbreak of dengue fever. A specially made gene in the males means their offspring will die after they mate with wild females. (Paulo Whitaker/Reuters)
