Ahead of Princess Charlotte’s first birthday on Monday, William and Kate have released new family photos.

"We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do," read a tweet from Kensington Palace.

The release the latest in the bargain the royals have with the British press. As our in-house royal watcher Patricia Treble has explained previously: "The Windsors ensure the media gets regularly updated photos of the children, and in return the British press leave the children alone and, importantly, agree not to publish paparazzi images."
