John Baird applauds a ‘tough, but fair’ softball

 

You might have noticed our new daily feature, The QP Clip, that shows you the exchange not to be missed during each day’s Question Period. Consider this post something of a supplementary. If you’ve watched Question Period, you know Conservative backbenchers lob softballs to cabinet ministers who just love the chance to wax on about the government’s accomplishments. Today’s questioner was Larry Miller,  the MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound and sponsor of Bill C-383, the Transboundary Waters Protection Act. The bill’s goal, according to Miller, is to “strengthen protections at the federal level to ensure that our waters are protected from bulk water removals.” He wondered if the government would support that effort.

Baird’s response brought some levity to the often-tense House of Commons.
