Music: music

On Twitter the other night, somebody asked whether I ever write about music. Yes indeedy; just for kicks, here are a few pieces from the last few years. I will be writing about some symphony orchestras at Carnegie Hall in a couple of weeks, probably here on the blog, for anyone who needs a break from politics as much as I do.

• An obituary for the great jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard;

• A shout-out to Haydn;

• A piece on the Juno-winning classical bassist Joel Quarrington;

• My adventures at last autumn’s Chopin Competition in Warsaw;

• A podcast from the National Arts Centre, where I gave a talk on the friendship between Mozart and Haydn. I hope to become a bit of a regular at the NAC, speaking before concerts, interviewing artists after concerts, doing these podcasts, and so on.
