The University of New Brunswick is the oldest English-language university in the country. With campuses in Fredericton and Saint John, UNB offers more than 75 undergraduate and graduate programs. Fredericton, home to the original campus, offers a larger number of programs, including arts, business administration, computer science, education, engineering, kinesiology, nursing, science and law. Saint John offers arts, business, science, engineering and a medical program.

Both campuses have a small-school feel; the student-to-faculty ratio is 15 to 1. The university places a strong focus on research. The Planetary and Space Science Centre is home to Canada’s only NASA-designated Regional Planetary Image Facility, where the public can view mission documents and cartographical information. The Human Performance Lab is an innovative motion-analysis lab with state-of-the-art equipment. Another strong focus: hands-on learning and entrepreneurship. More than 100 startups have launched from the school in the past decade.

“At the University of New Brunswick, we are responding to the many challenges of our time in ways that strengthen communities and improve lives,” says president Paul Mazerolle. “UNB students and alumni are working to shape a better world and a better future for all.” The Barry and Flora Beckett Residence on the Saint John campus features larger-than-normal rooms and geothermal heating and cooling, and is connected to the campus pedway system.
