Near, far, wherever she is

Quebec City’s 400th anniversary celebrations, already loaded with subtext and rampant (read: embarrassing) fury from a select few Quebec nationalists when a wrinkly old Liverpudlian paid a visit a couple weeks ago, are once again steeped in symbolism today. As Le Soleil reports, excavators are ripping up the Plains of Abraham – the celebration’s main venue and where, I’m told, some sort of pissy little skirmish happened at some point – to make room for an overly tanned, far-too-skinny songstress from Las Vegas. Oh, the horror!
