"I’m spending part of my summer vacation this year in Paris, where I constantly encounter accordionists on the subways. I have always loved the accordion which, incidentally, is the instrument of love. I also enjoy Annie Proulx, and so I’m reading Proulx’s Accordion Crimes about an accordion maker from Sicily who follows his dreams to America (or "La Merica", as he calls it). While his future doesn’t work out so well, the accordion outlives him and its bellows tell the story of many more immigrants, as it changes hands over the course of 100 years. Great read; especially in Paris."
