The best 26 films of 2013 in seven minutes

It’s montage season. Here’s one for your consideration.

Awards season is upon us, and that can mean only one thing. Montages! Sunday night the Golden Globes took a kaleidoscopic tour through the many lives of an absent Woody Allen (who sent avatar Dianne Keaton to accept his Cecil B. De Mille Award). And after the the Oscar nominations are announced Thursday morning, editors will go to work on maritime mash-ups of Robert Redford in All is Lost and Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips. You won’t find that in the montage I cut for last week’s 2013 TFCA Awards gala. Those seafaring flicks were not among the 26 winners and runners-up voted by the Toronto Film Critics Association. But I’m sure this is the only place you’ll find a tether sequence stringing together Gravity, Frozen, The Croods—and The Act of of Killing.
