Lakeland College
As Alberta’s oldest agricultural college, Lakeland is home to a 3,700-acre student-managed farm 20 minutes from campus, with commercial and purebred beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses and more than 140 bison. Students work in the recently built Agriculture Technology Centre to analyze production and sustainability data using the latest technology. The renovated WHT Mead building opened in 2022, serving hundreds of agricultural sciences, environmental sciences and human services students.
At the Lloydminster campus, the state-of-the-art Energy Centre includes a steam lab and high-pressure boilers and turbines, giving students a taste of the work conducted by power engineers. A recent new offering includes a renewable resource reclamation program as part of the environmental sciences diploma, which integrates environmental sciences and renewable energy.
The school’s older Vermilion campus has an ambience suited to the country. With a provincial park and wetlands nearby, environmental sciences students can put their education into action. The Emergency Training Centre includes a fire tower, dangerous goods and vehicle extraction pads and an industrial complex for comprehensive practical training. Lakeland’s award-winning interior-design technology program and early childhood education program are also based out of the Vermilion campus.
In all, Lakeland offers more than 50 programs that lead to certificates, diplomas, applied degrees, degree-completion options and apprenticeship training.
In 2024, the Lakeland Rustlers athletic teams won national gold in both women’s basketball and women’s volleyball, a historic first.
