Memorial offers more than 300 degree, diploma, certificate and graduate programs. The main campus is minutes from downtown St. John’s, which features a tunnel system that keeps students warm during the island’s winters. St. John’s is also home to the Fisheries and Marine Institute and the Signal Hill campus, which focuses on public engagement and innovation. The Grenfell campus, in Corner Brook, is known for its fine arts and environmental policy programs, and a small campus is maintained in Harlow, England. The Labrador Institute in Happy Valley–Goose Bay offers academic programs, creating a centre for northern and Indigenous-led research and education. The $325-million Core Science Facility was built for the faculty of science and faculty of applied science and engineering, as well as for community partnerships. The Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship offers educational programming and events, mentorship, a co-working space and funding support to help entrepreneurs from across all of Memorial’s disciplines. In 2023, the Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative, co-led by Memorial and the Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada, received a $91-million federal research grant to help address Inuit shipping priorities, promote the safety of ships operating in the Arctic and protect those environments. “As the only university in Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial offers a wide range of programs for students to explore their interests and ignite their passions. In the last 100 years, more than 100,000 alumni have used their education and experience to help create a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities,” says president Neil Bose.The school’s co-op program places more than 1,500 students each year.
Campus buzz: The school’s facilities, including the Aquarena swimming facility, are being modernized and upgraded in preparation for the 2025 Canada Games. The St. John’s campus will be home to the athletes’ village and will host multiple athletic competitions.
