Northern College
Northern College has four campuses, in Timmins, Haileybury, Kirkland Lake and Moosonee. The college offers diploma, certificate, apprenticeship, academic upgrading and continuing education programs, as well as a collaborative nursing degree. Residences are available at the Timmins and Haileybury campuses; the former has single rooms with private bathrooms, while the latter has apartment-style two-bedroom units. Indigenous students at Northern have access to Elder guidance at all four campuses.
A new residence opened at the Kirkland Lake campus in the spring of 2025, adding 13 student rental units. Northern houses a 40,000-square-foot Integrated Emergency Services Complex, which supports pre-service firefighter, paramedic and police foundations programs. The facility is the first of its kind in Canada. The Veterinary Sciences Centre at the Haileybury campus recently expanded to include a 3,100-square-foot necropsy section, providing students with enhanced learning spaces, advanced technology, a walk-in freezer, a life-sized dystocia cow model and a hoist for large specimens. The college recently added a new educational support diploma and expanded their animal physical rehabilitation graduate certificate to offer hybrid delivery. Eligible students in the nursing and paramedic programs can study for free with funding from the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant, which covers the cost of tuition, books and any other direct educational expenses.
Students and faculty at Northern conduct applied research in areas such as mining, firefighting and communications, technology, welding and social work.
