Queen’s University
Queen’s University is a hub of academic research on the shore of Lake Ontario near the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The campus is dotted with charming limestone buildings in Romanesque Revival and neo-Gothic styles; several buildings are more than 100 years old. Modern structures coexist alongside them, such as Mitchell Hall, home to science and robotic laboratories, an innovation hub, interdisciplinary research labs and athletic facilities. Next year, students of Smith Engineering can take advantage of Canada’s first-of-its-kind, world-class supercomputing hub, designed for industry collaboration, experiential learning and the adoption of artificial intelligence tools. The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts attracts award-winning performers, and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre houses works by Rembrandt, among others. “Queen’s University draws exceptional individuals from around the globe who are full of potential and driven to make a difference,” says principal Patrick Deane. “Our students thrive on transformative learning experiences that empower them to create lasting, positive change in the world.” The university has an extensive international program, offering the opportunity to study at more than 200 institutions around the world. The campus is surrounded by rows of brick houses, most of which are rented by students. It’s a 10-minute walk downtown and a short stroll to Lake Ontario’s scenic waterfront.
Campus buzz: The completely modernized John Deutsch University Centre is now open and features 6,000 feet of study space, meeting space for more than 100 student clubs, a health promotion and peer support centre, and a pub with an outdoor patio and new food options.
