Queen’s University is a hub of academic research on the shore of Lake Ontario near the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The campus is dotted with charming limestone buildings in Romanesque Revival and neo-Gothic styles; several buildings are more than 100 years old. Modern structures coexist alongside them, such as Mitchell Hall, home to science and robotic laboratories, an innovation hub, interdisciplinary research labs and athletic facilities. Currently under construction: a world-class supercomputing hub for engineering students, designed for industry collaboration, experiential learning and the adoption of artificial intelligence tools. The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts attracts award-winning performers, and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre houses works by Rembrandt, among others. “Queen’s University draws exceptional individuals from around the globe who are full of potential and driven to make a difference,” says principal Patrick Deane. “Our students thrive on transformative learning experiences that empower them to create lasting, positive change in the world.” The university has an extensive international program, offering the opportunity to study at more than 200 institutions around the world. The campus is surrounded by rows of brick houses, most of which are rented by students. It’s a 10-minute walk downtown and a short stroll to Lake Ontario’s scenic waterfront.

Campus buzz: A renovated main floor of the Stauffer Library has an expanded adaptive technology centre for students with disabilities and a space for consultations with specialist librarians. A stone sculpture by artist and Indigenous knowledge keeper David R. Maracle from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory is now on permanent display.
