Red Deer Polytechnic
Red Deer Polytechnic offers more than 100 industry-ready programs focused on four key sectors: energy innovation, social innovation, health care and health technology, and manufacturing and advanced manufacturing. Since becoming a polytechnic, RDP has expanded its program offerings every year. In 2024, it introduced a new culinary arts diploma and will launch several more new programs in the fall of 2025, including an artificial intelligence and data analytics diploma.
New machine learning and computer programming additions cater to those interested in business and technology. The school supports the creative arts and culture sector through programs like film and animation.
Located roughly 150 kilometres from both Calgary and Edmonton, Red Deer Polytechnic offers degrees, apprenticeships, certificates, diplomas, microcredentials and collaborative programs with partner post-secondary institutions. More than 95 per cent of RDP alumni are employed in fields relevant to their program after graduating.
One of the polytechnic’s newest features is the Alternative Energy Lab, which assists industry and research while providing students with the skills necessary to install, operate and maintain alternative energy systems. The lab is outfitted with technology that replicates and simulates full-size alternative energy setups.
RDP’s Green Campus Master Plan has set the goal of becoming a net-zero energy campus by 2031 and net-zero-carbon campus by 2041.
