The University of Winnipeg prides itself on its small class sizes and range of degree programs, which include everything from human rights to dance to neuroscience. The school’s downtown location helps shape its identity. The school has long been reaching out to those around it, working to adapt its offerings to shifting urban demographics. “A vibrant urban campus at the heart of the city, UWinnipeg is full of exceptional opportunities for students,” says interim president Jino Distasio. From engaging with faculty in leading-edge research, to taking part in small classes with world-class professors, our students gain experiences that equip them to make the difference they want to make in the world.” The university is also committed to advancing reconciliation. In 2015, the university was one of the first universities in Canada to mandate an Indigenous course requirement for all undergraduate degrees, ensuring that students have a baseline knowledge of Indigenous people and culture. The Pathway to Graduate Studies program connects undergraduate Indigenous students with research opportunities in STEM. The Indigenous Language radio show aims to create an Ojibway-speaking community outside of the classroom. Over the past decade, the university has invested heavily in expansions and renovations, including new buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms, a science and environment building and an athletic complex.

Campus buzz: Students can now spend their summer studying abroad in Germany thanks to a new partnership with the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
