Université de Moncton

Founded 1963 | Moncton, Edmundston and Shippagan, N.B.

March 22, 2024

The Université de Moncton might be small, but it punches above its weight. Graduates include the chief justice of the province, a former lieutenant governor and three past premiers. The main campus is located in Moncton, while the Shippagan campus, which offers courses in the sustainability of marine ecosystems, is located on the Acadian Peninsula. The forest management program is housed at the Edmundston campus, nestled among the Appalachian Mountains. All three campuses are exclusively French-speaking. Small is good when it comes to class size: Moncton has one of the lowest student-faculty ratios in Canada at 13.9 to 1. Home of the world’s biggest archive of Acadian materials, Moncton is a must-visit for historians. And while the university serves its Acadian roots well, it also attracts students from beyond the region. International students make up 36 per cent of the student population. “The Université de Moncton is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and the training of creative and socially conscious people. The Université de Moncton is known for its involvement in research, especially in the fields of health, environment, Acadian studies, robotics and artificial intelligence,” says president Denis Prud’homme. Roughly 74 per cent of graduates are employed in an occupation closely related to their studies, and their income is 18 per cent higher than the national average. Moncton’s research funding has been growing over the past 10 years. The school is starting several construction projects and new initiatives, such as the establishment of a social issues incubator for the community and a health research institute, construction of additional student residences and the renovation of the physical education and sports centre.

Campus buzz: Students can take advantage of the new e-sports room at the student centre, equipped with advanced gaming technology, ergonomic chairs and high-speed internet
