University of Manitoba
Western Canada’s oldest university offers more than 100 programs, including some rare courses, like design of assistive technology devices and decolonizing and Indigenizing engineering education. Professional schools offer degrees in architecture, engineering, medicine, dentistry, law and pharmacy. “As Manitoba’s research university, we combine a legacy of academic excellence with a forward-looking approach to the challenges of today and tomorrow,” says president Michael Benarroch. “Our diverse programs are enriched by unique opportunities for work-integrated and experiential learning. This equips our students not just to excel in their careers, but to drive innovation, foster inclusivity, and create lasting impact in their communities and beyond.”
The university is fostering the development of the next generation of Indigenous leaders by providing inclusive learning that promotes Indigenous student success. Home to more than 2,994 First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, U of M offers specialized Indigenous programs, bursaries and scholarships, an annual graduation powwow and a Indigenous student community space. While the trademark Georgian-style architecture reminds students of the school’s history, the school’s state-of-the-art, 100,000-square-foot Active Living Centre welcomes visitors with its floor-to-ceiling windows. An extensive tunnel system links old and new buildings, keeping students warm during Winnipeg’s harsh winters. The Desautels Concert Hall, a new 407-seat flexible performance space, boasts state-of-the art acoustics.
Campus Buzz: Students have access to two new amenities: The Connection Desk, staffed by students, is a central hub for campus services and resources, while the Tony T.K. Lau Global Lounge provides a space for international students to connect, study and relax on a rooftop patio.
