Amazon.com announces online political comedy written by ’Doonesbury’ cartoonist Garry Trudeau

Original online-only programming has gained traction this year with the Netflix series House of Cards and then its revival of Arrested Development. Now, Amazon.com wants in on the online television series market, and is announcing a political comedy program written by ’Doonesbury’ cartoonist Garry Trudeau.

Alpha House will revolve around a group of Republican senators who live in the same row-housing unit on Capitol Hill. Amazon Studios will produce 13 episodes, which will air this year, or early next year, reports The Washington Post.

The Alpha House series was one chosen by viewers, who were asked to vote on eight comedy pilots posted on Amazon earlier in the year.
