How about a Kickstarter campaign for another Firefly movie? No way, says Joss Whedon

After the overwhelming success of a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to fund a Veronica Mars movie, superfans began to speculate that perhaps the same tactic could be used to revive Joss Whedon’s television show Firefly.

After the overwhelming success of a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to fund a Veronica Mars movie, superfans began to speculate that perhaps the same tactic could be used to revive Joss Whedon’s television show Firefly.

But Whedon was quick to disappoint fans, telling Buzzfeed that the former Fox sci-fi show, which was cancelled in 2002, will not be making a comeback using Kickstarter funding. “I don’t even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won’t,” he said.

However, Whedon did say that he’d love to revive Firefly, but he is booked solid with work right now. Add to that the fact that former Firefly star Nathan Fillion is a bit busy with the television show Castle, and it could be a while before fans get to see any new Firefly episodes.

Whedon already had one shot at turning Firefly into a movie and it didn’t go so well. Serenity, a film spinoff of the cancelled Firefly series, was released in 2005, but it didn’t live up to its hype at the box office.
