Bill Morneau, Justin Trudeau’s finance minister and a rookie Toronto MP, delivered the Liberal majority government’s first budget on Tuesday, which presents an ambitious child benefit plan but also a grim outlook on the Canadian economy. On a one-on-one conversation with the finance minister, Cormac MacSweeney presses Morneau on when the Liberal government foresees that the country will return to a balanced budget, and how the Liberals will judge the budget’s success.
