Tom Mulcair’s reserved his first question to Stephen Harper for the plight of hundreds of abducted Nigerian girls whose government can’t find them. Mulcair wondered how Canada might help, and the Prime Minister offered a vague—though firm—commitment of assistance. Only later, when NDP MP Paul Dewar returned the issue did the House hear about anything more specific. Dewar asked Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird if Canada would contribute surveillance equipment to the effort. Baird replied that, yes, that would be possible—on the condition that Canadians operate the equipment.
