New French-language learning opportunities focused on building indemand employment skills in rewarding and growing fields are emerging at the Université de l’Ontario français (UOF), a post-secondary school with a strong spirit of discovery and innovation propels students to excel in their chosen fields. This fall, Toronto’s university for French speakers has launched its bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (B.B.A.), while an undergraduate degree in Mental Health will accept students in September of 2025. Reflecting the institution’s commitment to trans-disciplinary education that is connected to current societal issues and trends, the programs will be delivered by sector professionals using current pedagogies and technologies in an engaging and
stimulating environment. Aimed at developing students’ foundational knowledge and practical know-how through an ideal mix of classroom learning and experiential components, these programs will empower Francophones to thrive in meaningful occupations that need more French-speaking practitioners.
Bachelor of Business Administration
With Canada’s dynamic business environment offering diverse employment pathways, and with Toronto being a global hub of innovation in the technology, finance and creative sectors, there has never been a better time for French speakers to make an impact in business. Francophones interested in helping companies be locally and globally competitive in the digital age will develop must-have competencies in the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A), a program highly informed by current and emerging market needs.
Through an optimal blend of theory and practice that will include extensive case studies and fieldwork opportunities and internship, students will gain an embodied understanding of modern business strategies and tactics in the fundamental functions of finance, accounting, human resources and change management. The program places a strong emphasis on responsible leadership, equipping students not only with management expertise but also with a deep understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and societal issues. This holistic approach fosters the development of thoughtful managers who prioritize individual needs for the betterment of society—essential qualities for success in today’s job market.
Students will also develop key skills needed to succeed in today’s complex and fast-evolving business climate, such as agile governance, sustainable and ethical decision-making, entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, and navigating business legislative frameworks.
Graduates are equipped to advance in an array of career opportunities such as management roles, HR, banking specialist, financial analyst and business consulting. Opportunities to guide the French-language aspects of business operations will also be within reach.
Bachelor of Mental Health
At a time of unprecedented social awareness of mental health that has led to a proliferation of support services, the opportunities to build a meaningful career in this field abound. UOF is responding to this development with a program that will enable learners to grasp the diverse roots of mental distress, and the key practices to help those who are suffering.
Students in the forthcoming Bachelor of Mental Health will develop core knowledge of psychology theories and clinical practice as they explore the dynamic nature of mental health disorders, the social factors shaping psychological well-being and how substance use affects mental health. The comprehensive curriculum will provide participants with a well-rounded understanding of the social, intercultural, community and political forces at play in the mental health space. Particular attention will also be paid to the central role of inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging in the study of mental health.
Students will become adept at using the field’s dominant research methods to study diverse aspects of mental health topics. Meanwhile, a 225-hour internship at a mental health organization will support their development of vital in-the-field expertise. Graduates will be well prepared to excel in roles requiring more French speakers, such as mental health work, addiction counsellor, guidance counsellor or public health officer, or to pursue further study in areas such as psychotherapy, social work, education and psychology.
Looking ahead
Committed to continually expanding its educational offerings in line with job market trends, UOF is currently developing a bachelor’s degree program in social work. This practical, relevant program will enable more French speakers to help vulnerable people and promote social justice.
