Cyclists better be ready. I wasn’t. I heard about Sherbrooke’s steep incline, but I only understood after experiencing it first-hand. The Université de Sherbrooke sits at the top of the green and mountainous Eastern Townships and offers breathtaking views. There’s a strong sense of belonging at U de S that creates an inclusive environment. In class, it’s hard to get bored thanks to courses that are structured to emphasize the importance of practicality over theory, as well as Sherbrooke’s smaller group dynamics. If you’re not doing research at the modern library or holding a brainstorming meeting at one of the business faculty’s working areas, you can chat over a coffee at Café Gigi, our cozy on-campus café-bistro.
What you must know about the Université de Sherbrooke is that most programs can be paired with co-op placements, which provide students with an important edge when entering the job market. The support and guidance provided here is priceless. There’s help building your resumé, simulations of job interviews and hundreds of stimulating placements.

Finally, there’s the fun part. Every Thursday, each faculty hosts a happy hour that you won’t want to miss. Music, beer, pizza, friends—and yes, more beer. It’s our time to relax and socialize, and the coolest teachers might even join us from time to time. The classic ending: we sing Sweet Caroline all together (though some shouldn’t, really) before saying goodbye. These evenings have created unique memories that I will never forget.

Extras
Rainy or not, you don’t want to miss the electricity and spirit that saturates one of our “Vert & Or” football games. The stands are coloured green and gold, filled with students proudly dressed in our university colours. To stay in shape, you can access a plethora of sports and activities at the athletic centre.
We are also fortunate enough to have a fresh and contemporary cultural centre on campus, where we can attend conferences, shows and plays. The centre also showcases tons of art exhibitions that cater to all tastes—you only have to go there once to fall in love with it.

Local Vibe
Since the city of Sherbrooke is home to two universities, there is always something going on, both day and night. Downtown, you’ll find a small local cinema, some trendy microbreweries and many charming coffee shops.

Outdoor enthusiasts know that Sherbrooke’s undeniable advantage is that it’s surrounded by nature. It’s only a few minutes away from a vast network of bicycle paths and several mountains for snowboarders and hikers.

So whether you want to breathe in some fresh air or chill downtown, Sherbrooke is the place to be no matter what mood you’re in.
