It wasn’t meant to be for our hometown star: Thornhill, Ont.’s Milos Raonic was ousted by Spain’s Feliciano Lopez in the quarterfinals, not too long after Eugenie Bouchard was eliminated in an early-round upset, before the tournament really got underway. But as the weekend moved on into its final match-ups, the Rogers Cup presented many more story lines, including a pitched battle between the Williams sisters and the continued, meteoric rise of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who has shocked by upsetting three consecutive top-10 ranked players in a row. The tournament ends today, with the men’s finals pitting Tsonga against Roger Federer, the elegant eminence; Venus Williams takes on Agnieszka Radwanska for the women’s crown.
