ceremony of the 1908 Olympics in London on April 27, 1908. The flag
bearer (carrying the Red Ensign) was pole vaulter Ed Archibald, who
later won a bronze medal. Marathoner Tom Longboat is in the first rank
of marchers behind Archibald. Although Canada had 87 athletes in the
1908 Olympics, only about three dozen — mostly members of the
athletics (track and field) team — marched in the opening ceremony
parade.
